Murder Mystery at the Glenacres Historic Inn
Setting
The 1920's and period of Prohibition saw a busy traffic of liquor suppliers in Washington's coastal waters. Funded by the likes of Roy Olmstead supply ships from Mexico regularly navigated the Pacific coast on their way to lucrative markets around Puget Sound. This sea traffic mixed with the fleet of vessels from Grays Harbor as one of the busiest port areas in the country at the time. Forest product and shellfish were primary export drivers of a market that was otherwise supported by rail service arriving to the harbor in the early 1900s.
Built at the site of a major shipping terminus on the harbor at the time, Peterson Landing, The Glenacres Inn (former Armstrong family home) stood at the hub of commerce and development that attracted prospectors and adventurers from afar. The character and architectural scale of the inn/residence speaks to the bright economic outlook of the region where lumber barons ferried to Peterson Landing along the Chehalis River, taxiing by carriage to summer homes.
In the mix of money, rapid development and nefarious activity of the local and Prohibition setting, the speak-easy business around which the mystery weekend scripting is based might plausibly have found cover at just such a place as the Glenacres Inn. Join us in the re-scripting of local history while the authentic character and details of Westport's premier heritage home help transport you to a chapter in its not-so-distant past where just such a twist of the storyline might have transpired.
Plot
Don Wannabe is hosting a grand opening celebration at the Glenacres Inn for his new lavish speakeasy, The Four Deuces. With gangsters, hit men, politicians, molls and many other interesting guests in attendance, there are sure to be a lot of big deals being made here tonight.
How it Works
Your sleuthing adventure at the inn begins with some light interrogation used to assign character roles. Within two weeks of the mystery event you will receive information about your character and the part he/she will hold at the occasion. You will not be quizzed on your grasp of details and you needn't feel any weight of performance expectation. Your powers of observation and spirit of fun will be your greatest assets to sleuthing success and enjoyment in the event.
The kick-off occurs as a gathering for hors d'oevres at 6:15 on Saturday. It is important that you be there for that and other scheduled gatherings to support everyone's familiarization of characters and circumstances involved in the unfolding mystery drama.
